Sandro Tonali – “The No.8 Washing Line Strip”

Toon Art by The Toon Army Artist

Straight from the back lane of Tyneside (and the slightly mischievous pencil of The Toon Army Artist) comes this unmistakably Geordie tribute to redemption, rebirth and a very well-aired football shirt.

Here hangs the famous No.8 — Sandro Tonali’s black-and-white stripes, clipped proudly to a washing line against a brick wall that’s seen more chalk than a school playground. Around it, the voices of the Toon Army echo forever in colourful graffiti: legends past and present, heroes, chants, and the sacred roll-call of St James’ Park immortality.

Once temporarily taken down by a FIFA clothes peg for a betting wobble, Tonali’s shirt now flaps freely again in the Tyneside breeze — freshly washed, fully forgiven, and officially adopted by the Geordie nation.

No spin cycle could ever remove this much passion.

From suspension… to superstar… now permanently on the Toon washing line of honour.
