Still Life Print 16 x 12
Still Life is one of my personal favourite acrylic paintings, created with a deep love for classical composition and the quiet drama of light. Set against a rich, dark backdrop, the scene brings together a gleaming copper kettle, a cut-glass goblet, a bottle of wine, and a cluster of ripe fruit, arranged with balance, restraint, and elegance.
The painting celebrates texture and reflection. The copper kettle becomes the heart of the composition, catching warm highlights and subtle colour shifts, while the glassware and bottle introduce cooler tones and crisp edges. The grapes and fruit add softness and richness, their natural colours glowing against the surrounding shadows. The contrast between polished surfaces and organic forms gives the piece both realism and atmosphere.
Light is used not simply to illuminate, but to create mood. Gentle reflections ripple across metal and glass, while the dark background allows each object to emerge with clarity and presence. The result is a still life that feels timeless, intimate, and quietly luxurious.
More than a study of objects, this artwork reflects the discipline and observation behind traditional painting, while still retaining a contemporary sense of boldness and depth. It is a striking piece that brings warmth, sophistication, and calm focus to any interior, ideal for kitchens, dining rooms, studies, or art collections.
An important personal note: this painting was one of the works that helped secure my place as one of the ten finalists in the 2015 BBC Great Painting Challenge, making it not only a still life, but a milestone in my journey as an artist.
