SPG
Framed Edition
Big hair. Bigger courage. Absolute chaos.
SPG is a full throttle tribute to an era when public order policing felt less like a briefing and more like a blockbuster film set.
Inspired by that iconic Clint Eastwood classic The Gauntlet, this illustration swaps the famous Greyhound bus for something far closer to home. The unmistakable green Goddess coach thunders forward through smoke and flying debris, carrying London’s finest into the thick of it.
Front and centre stand two officers gripping dustbin lids instead of riot shields. Because back then, proper issued public order kit was not always part of the plan. If you needed protection, you improvised. Metal bin lids became armour. Determination did the rest.
There is drama. There is fire. There is the unmistakable sense that this is going to be a very long tour of duty.
But look closer, because as always with Boris, the real story is in the details.
The Woolworths sandwiches and the 7 Eleven signage are not random additions. They reflect a time when high street stores quietly stepped up during waves of unrest, providing free sandwiches and drinks to officers heading straight back out onto the line. Small gestures that meant everything during exhausting nights.
Floating down through the smoke are the Mets Are Magic stickers, drifting like confetti through the mayhem. A tongue in cheek reminder that even in the thick of confrontation, humour and pride in the badge never disappeared.
This framed edition captures the intensity, the camaraderie and the raw improvisation of early public order days. It is dramatic, yes. But it is also affectionate. A salute to those who stood shoulder to shoulder with whatever they had and carried on regardless.
Perfect for former SPG officers, public order veterans, collectors of policing history and anyone who remembers when the green coaches rolled out and you knew exactly what kind of evening it was going to be.
Improvised. Relentless. Unapologetically bold.
By Boris.
Available in two frame sizes, with two mount options, making it ideal for display in a home office, study, police-themed collection, or as a meaningful gift for a serving or retired officer.
