Artist’s Statement
Painted in my studio in the quiet months before the pandemic, The Path is an imagined yet deeply familiar vision of the Northumbrian landscape, a meeting of memory, mood and light.
A sinuous red-orange track winds through untamed hedgerows toward a distant copse, inviting the viewer to journey beyond the canvas and into the open countryside. The brushwork captures a landscape in motion, a moment suspended between storm and calm. Overhead, heavy clouds are breaking apart, revealing pale shafts of light that spill across the moor and hint at renewal after darkness.
The palette moves from earthy umbers and moss greens to sudden bursts of fire and gold, a contrast that mirrors the unpredictable drama of northern skies. Painted in oils with layered glazes and textured impasto, The Path embodies both solitude and optimism, a timeless meditation on resilience and the promise of clearer days ahead.
Available for viewing in my studio and I can deliver locally.
