Morpeth Town – Original Framed Acrylic Painting 53.5 x 29
Artist’s Statement
Morpeth Town presents a striking winter view of the town centred on the graceful stone arches of the locally well knownTelford Bridge, captured beneath a cold but luminous sky. Snow softens the scene, settling on rooftops, branches, and riverbanks, while the bridge itself glows warmly as it spans the quietly flowing water.
The composition balances architectural strength with seasonal calm. Reflections shimmer beneath the arches, broken gently by ripples in the river, while the church rises beyond, its spire cutting cleanly into the pale winter sky. Subtle washes of blue, white, and warm stone tones create depth and contrast, giving the scene both clarity and atmosphere.
What makes this image especially distinctive is its sense of time and change. The bare trees in front of the church, now absent due to later flood defence works, remain here as part of the original landscape. Their presence lends the piece a documentary quality as well as an emotional one, preserving a view of Morpeth that no longer exists.
Morpeth Town Print is both a winter landscape and a quiet record of local history. It captures a familiar place at a particular moment in time, making it especially meaningful for those with a connection to the town, and a compelling piece for anyone who values heritage, memory, and the subtle beauty of changing landscapes.
